Grantham Canal : Grantham to Dirty Duck Pub
The Start of #Walk1000Miles 2020
A solid 8.4 miles on the first day of 2020 with an out-and-back walk from the The Farrier, on the A607 to the west of Grantham, to the Dirty Duck at Woolsthorpe Wharf. With a relatively late start, at 15:00, it was a walk out in daylight and back in the dark; many thanks due to […]
Woolsthorpe-by-Belvoir and Grantham Canal
It’s time to reset the count and start logging the miles again during 2020! 2019 fizzled out for me as far as the #walk1000miles challenge was concerned. I lost interest quite early on in the year, stopped tracking mileage and, I guess, ‘just enjoyed the walk’. This had the effect of me not having the […]
K&AC : Day 3 – Newbury Racecourse to Hungerford
A 3.1 mile walk which from Woolsthorpe-by-Belvoir crossing the Grantham Canal and taking in a short section of the Viking Way. As a bonus it also takes in two great pubs, The Dirty Duck, at Woolsthorpe Wharf, and The Chequers Inn in Woolsthorpe-by-Belvoir itself; the perfect place to end a walk.
GUC : Day 12 – Long Buckby to Birdingbury Bridge
Day 3 of the Kennet and Avon Canal, from Newbury Racecourse to Hungerford.
Gran(d)tham Canal : Day 1 of 2019
Day 12 of the Grand Union Canal from Long Buckby to Birdingbury Bridge.
Grand Union Canal Walk (Northampton Arm) : Day 10 : Stoke Bruerne to Northampton
So after a busy week (of work 🙁 ) Sunday arrived and the thought of an early start and a longish day some distance away didn’t appeal. There’ll always be another day? So instead we headed to the Grantham Canal, a familiar haunt, for the first time in 2019. Parking in the car park of […]
The End of #Walk1000Miles 2018
Day 10 of our walk along the Grand Union Canal took us briefly along the main canal from Stoke Bruerne, over Blisworth Tunnel, to Blisworth junction where we branched off in a north easterly direction along the Northampton Arm to the centre of Northampton itself. Being Sunday 13 January daylight was in short supply and […]
As the year draws to an end, I couldn’t have imagined the positive affect Country Walking magazine’s Walk 1000 Miles campaign could have on my life during 2018. In total I logged 945.7 miles, and so didn’t reach the 1000 mile goal, but that doesn’t matter in the slightest. I chose to count only ‘planned’ […]
