An easy, 3.7 mile, local walk around Twyford Wood.  This Forestry England managed wood occupies the site of the former RAF North Witham which is very evident in the form of its runways, peri-tracks (taxiways) and control tower.  The brick form of the control tower is still standing but the fixtures, glazing and woodwork has long since been removed.  Various attempts have been made by Forestry England to prevent access to the tower over a long period of time and recently this has involved ‘bricking-up’ all openings.  To achieve this the vegetation around the building had to be removed and this has improved conditions for taking pictures of the tower which we took advantage of today.
